Phan Thiet

About 200 km north of Ho Chi Minh City is Phan Thiet town, Binh Thuan province. This traditional fishing village is fast becoming a popular leisure destination. Resort-style developments have been rising along the coastline, though so far the lives of the fishing communities remain unchanged and long beach is quiet and serene, great for walks, jogging and spectacular sunsets.

Phan Thiet is famous for its fish sauce, an ingredient in most Vietnamese dishes. There's not so much to see in town, but the riverside fishing harbour is always chock-a-block with brightly painted boats and is worth a look.

It, too, has a beautiful beach. There is a wide range of accommodation, and restaurants offer a huge selection of seafood at very affordable prices. There are golf courses, beautiful pagodas, spectacular red and white sand dunes, and a variety of water sports. Phan Thiet has some excellent seafood restaurants off its seafront promenade, including Song Bien. Phan Thiet bus station is on the northern outskirts of town. The nearest train station to Phan Thiet is 12km west of town in dusty little Muong Man.
